Investing

Over the last 20 years, many of the products and strategies used by investors to capture diversification and globalization have become available to smaller sized portfolios as product innovation have brought down costs and fees. If investors are only investing in broad asset classes but not different types and/or tiers of that asset class, they may be missing out on opportunities to diversify away unsystematic risk or strategies to better fit their risk appetite. Today, thanks to product innovation and reduction of expenses, individual investors have greater access to an array product categories. Compared to 20 years ago, products today allow investors to not only receive exposure to different countries’ credit and equity markets, but also many different categories within equity and fixed income markets. Such as: credit ratings, debt issuers (municipal, province, sovereign, mortgage, corporate), market cap, investment styles, sectors etc.
